The short version

Your accounting data never reaches us. AK Smarts Books is offline software that runs entirely on your own computer. Your invoices, ledgers, customer and employee details, tax figures and backups are created and stored on your device. They are never sent to AK Smarts and we have no way to see them.

What we do and do not collect

Your books: stay on your computer, or in a file or Google Drive folder you choose. We never receive them.
Google Drive: if you connect it, your books go directly from your browser to your own Google account. AK Smarts Books can only touch the files it created, and nothing passes through our servers.
Gmail (payslips): if you choose to email payslips, they are sent from your own Gmail account. We never see the recipients or the content.
Licence activation: to issue or renew a licence we use the installation ID you send us (a random code for your computer) and the details you give us, such as your name and email. We keep these only to manage your licence.
Tax-rule updates: when online, AK Smarts Books may check our website for updated tax rates. This is an ordinary file download and sends none of your data.

Cookies and tracking

The AK Smarts Books app uses your browser's local storage only to keep your own settings and books on your device. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Your rights

Because your accounting data stays on your device, you are in full control of it at all times. For the limited licence details we hold, you may ask us to correct or delete them by contacting us.
